The serum E-selectin level and the S128R polymorphisms of E-selectin in patients with chronic periodontitis in Chinese population

2011
Objective: To study the correlation between E-selectin S128R polymorphism and chronic periodontitis in Chinese population. Methods: The S128R polymorphism in the exon 4 of E-selection was detected by polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism method(PCR-RFLP) in patients with chronic periodontitis(n=143) and in healthy controls(n=142).The serum level of E-selectin was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Results: Genotype frequency was accord with the balance of Hardy-Weinberg.In control group the frequency of genotype SS and SR was 93.7% and 6.3%,in CP group that was 83.9% and 16.1% respectively(P=0.009).In control group the frequency of allele S and R was 96.9% and 3.1%,in CP group that was 96.9% and 3.1% respectively(P=0.012).There were significant difference in frequency of genotype and allele between CP and control groups. The serum levels of soluble E-selectin(μg/L) in the CP group and the control was 47.6±6.71 and 29.37±7.28 respectively(P0.01).Conclusion: The S128R polymorphism in the exon 4 of E-selection was related to chronic periodontitis.Allele R may be one of the gene-tic sign of chronic periodontitis susceptibility. The serum levels of soluble E-selectin in the CP group is obviously higher.
