Analysis on disease spectrum and fatality rate of inpatients with malignant tumor in Zigong First People’s Hospital from 2004-2014

[Objective]To analyze the disease spectrum, fatality rate and main death causes of inpatients with malignant tumor,provide the basis for realizing the epidemiological characteristics of malignant tumor and taking tumor prevention and treatment in the area. [Methods]The clinical data of 13 368 inpatients with malignant tumor and 500 inpatients died of malignant tumor in Zigong First People’s Hospital from 2004-2014 were analyzed retrospectively. [Results]The top 10 malignant tumors of inpatients were lung cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer,nasopharyngeal carcinoma, lymphoma, and ovarian cancer, accounting for 78.6% of total inpatients. The total fatality rate of inpatients with malignant tumor was 3.74%( 500/13 368), and the fatality rate showed a descending trend year by year( χ2trend=263.573,P<0.01). The fatality rate of malignant tumor in males was higher than that in females( χ2=71.632,P<0.01). The rank order analysis revealed that the leading 10 causes of death were lung cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, gastric cancer,esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer, and ovarian cancer, accounting for 71.0% of the total death cases. Lung cancer ranked first place in death causes of malignant tumor, accounted for 33.6%. The rank order of causes of death was different in different gender groups. [Conclusion]Lung cancer shows the highest incidence rate and mortality rate among malignant tumors in inpatients in Zigong City, and lung cancer accounted for nearly 1/3 of all death cause of malignant tumors. It is necessary to strengthen the prevention and control of key malignant tumors, such as lung cancer,to improve the health of residents.
