Asistencia ventilatoria en la insuficiencia respiratoria aguda en Urgencias

2015
In recent years it has spread the use of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) in emergencies and in the prehospital setting, to support the treatment of acute respiratory failure (ARF). The main indications are acute pulmonary edema (APE) and the exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in which it has shown to reduce the need for endotracheal intubation, length of hospital stay and improved survival patients. Recently its use has spread to other pathologies such as ARF immunocompromised patients, patients with no indication of intubation or in situations with palliative intent. We face a challenge in terms of the training of health professionals that make up the accident and emergency services for knowledge of respiratory therapy technique and the creation of appropriate units to carry it out.
