Model and Experimental Investigation of Fluid Velocity Field in Grinding Zone

The velocity field model of wedge -like zone between the wheel and the workpiece was established, based on Navier-Stokes and continuous equation. The emulation results show that the fluid speed was proportion to the grinding wheel velocity, and the peak velocity was generated just in the minimum clear- ance region in which high speed gradient occurred. It can also be concluded that the velocity distribution was uniformin the direction of width of wheel except at the edge of wheel in which the fluid hydrodynam- ic pressure existed side -leakage. The fluid speed at wedge -like zone between the wheel and the part was investigated experimentally. The experimental results showthat the theoretical model was agreement with the experimental results and the model can well forecast the fluid velocity distribution at the contact zone between the grinding wheel and the workpiece.
