Health Problems of Low Income Communities

1980
In the majority of large cities of the Western World, there is a significant proportion of low income persons whose health problems are dealt with through publicly funded health care systems. The relative size of the low income population varies from country to country and from city to city within each country. The 1970 census of the USA showed a national average of 10.7% poor families, the percentage being higher in the rural areas (15%) than in the cities (9%).
