Association of ENPP1 gene K121Q polymorphism with type 2 diabetes in Taian population

2010
Objective:To assess the association of Ecto-nucleotide pyrophosphatase/ phosphodiesterase 1(ENPP1)gene K121Q polymorphism with type 2 diabetes(T2D) in Taian population. Methods: 100 unrelated T2D patients and 150 control subjects living in Taian were selected.ENPP1 gene K121Q polymorphism was determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphisms(PCR-RFLP) and distributions of Q,K alleles and KK,KQ,QQ genotypes were observed in normal controls and type 2 diabetes patients. Results: The genotype frequencies in the experimental group and control group were 89.00%,87.33% for KK,11.00%,12.67% for KQ and 0.00%,0.00% for QQ;The allele frequencies were 94.50%,93.67% for K and 5.50%,6.33% for Q.No significant difference was observed in either genotype distribution or allele frequency between type 2 diabetes and control groups(P0.05).Conclusion: K121Q polymorphism of the ENPP1 gene has very little,if any, association with type 2 diabetes in Taian population.
