HIGH PERFORMANCE CONCRETE MIXTURES FOR SPUN-CAST CONCRETE POLES

1997
High performance concrete (HPC) mixtures of different strength characteristics using two types of coarse aggregates were spun in a specially designed spinning machine and tested for strength, differential shrinkage and durability. Low water-cementitious ratio, addition of silica fume for up to 10 percent of the weight of cement and the use of superplasticizers were the characteristics of most mixtures. Both air-entrained and non-air-entrained mixtures were tested. Based on the results, two mixtures, one with siliceous gravel aggregate with a target strength of 80 MPa (11.6 ksi) and the other with crushed limestone aggregate with a target strength of l10 MPa (16 ksi), are recommended for the commercial production of spun-cast concrete poles.
