Synthesis of a Nanocrystalline α-Al2O3 Powder in Molten Halides in the Temperature Range 700–800°С

The chemical interaction between molten aluminum and glucose in molten alkaline halides at temperatures of 700–800°С is investigated. This interaction forms α-Al2O3 powder consisting of 20–100-nm nanocrystals in the salt melt. α-Al2O3 nanocrystalline formation is confirmed by scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy.
