Multimodal therapy of advanced differentiated thyroid cancer, with emphasis on the role of radioiodine

Introduction Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) accounts for 95% of all thyroid cancers and is generally an indolent tumor, tending to present with limited loco-regional disease with an excellent long-term survival after treatment. However, 5–10% present with locally advanced disease and aero-digestive tract invasion or distant metastases that are the main cause of thyroid cancer-related deaths.
