Health transition research in Nigeria in the era of the Structural Adjustment Programme.

The Nigerian Health Transition research program was initiated in 1990. The objectives of the program include the understanding of the cultural social and behavioural determinants of health and the part played by these factors in the achievement of lower levels of mortality and improved conditions of health....The research described here is...the first stage of the Ondo State segment of the Nigerian program. A similar survey on Family Structure and Treatment of Child Illness in Ekiti District Nigeria was also conducted between April 1993 and February 1994.
