Production of electrode coke from heavy residues from Mangyshlak crude oil

1974
1. It has been found that the reason for the lower temperatures in coking straight unblended residues from Mangyshlak crude is the very marked absorption of heat during the period of carboid formation. 2. Under production conditions, the temperature drop can be eliminated by introducing additional heat through a heat carrier. 3. The holding time of the coke in the chambers has been increased by introducing parallel feed, without any decrease in feedstock capacity of the unit. 4. By increasing the recycle coefficient from 1.1 to 1.7, and by introducing parallel feed of the chambers, the yield of electrode coke has been increased by a factor of 1.5, and the yield of volatile components has been reduced by 1.5–2%.
