PATIENT WITH METASTATIC BONE TUMOR COMPLETELY RECOVERING PALSY OF LOWER LIMB BY RADIATION THERAPY

1996
A 62-year-old man was referred to a hospital because of back pain, lower limb palsy, sensory disturbance and recto-urinary dysfunction. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a bone tumor compressing the spinal cord posteriorly. He was diagnosed as metastatic bone tumor and treated with radiation therapy on the day he came to our department. All symptoms subsided with radiation therapy and he returned to the life style he had before the treatment. Radiation therapy is effective for pain control and recovery from nerve palsy.Symptoms due to spinal cord compression can be completely recovered by early radiation therapy.
