Comparing Hardiness among Patients with High Levels of Hypertension and Healthy Individuals

The present study aims at comparing hardiness among patients with high levels of hypertension and healthy individuals in Gonbad Kavous city. It is of ex post facto type. The sample of this research included 120 persons (60 patients with high level of hypertension and 60 individuals with normal blood pressure) from among those who sought medical care aged between 25 to 60 years, selected through simple random sampling. Then the participants were asked to answer Kobasa's questionnaire of psychological hardiness. Two-sample independent t test and ANOVA two way variance test were used to analyze the data of the study. Results obtained from independent two-sample t test showed that there is a meaningful difference in hardiness among patients with high levels of hypertension and healthy individuals, such that hardiness among healthy individuals with mean of (187/2667) is more than patients with high levels of hypertension with mean of (141/6833). The results of two-way variance test also showed that there is a meaningful difference between hardiness in men with high levels of hypertension and women with high levels of hypertension. Such that hardiness among men with high levels of hypertension with mean of (142/7500) is more than in women with high levels of hypertension with mean of (134/0500). The results of this study suggested that psychological hardiness in healthy individuals is higher than patients with high levels of hypertension. Also hardiness among men with high levels of hypertension is more than women with high levels of hypertension. Study data showed that hardiness could leave an important effect on securing health in tensioning incidents.
