Comparison of diagnosis and clinical analysis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma between CT and MRI

2011
Objective To evaluate the diagnostic values of CT and MRI by analyzing the imaging behavior of human nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods 82 cases of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, confirmed by nasopharygo-fiberscope and pathological observation, were analyzed retrospectively using CT and MRI.Results According to 2008 staging system of China, the positive detection rates of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(T1,T2,T3,T4)by CT and MRI methods were 42.7% and 19.5%,13.4% and 17%,24.4% and 39%,19.5% and 24.4%( 0.05)respectively;the positive detection rates for nasopharyngeal carcinoma with cervical lymph node metastasis(N0,N1,N2,N3)by CT and MRI were 51.2% and 40.2%,18.3% and 28.0%(0.05);19.5% and 20.7%,11.0% and 11.0 %( 0.05)respectively.Conclusion Nasopharygo-fiberscope can show clearly the location and extent of lesions, and biopsy can be carried out under direct vision.MRI is superior to CT in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
