Information fusion in networked underwater target detection

Instead of single sensor processing, information fusion uses several sensors' data to get more accuracy in signal processing. Underwater acoustic networks has played more and more important roles in underwater monitoring and surveillance, in which target detection is a significant aspect. The so-called networked target detection uses network as a kind of tool to find underwater objects, so information fusion can be a good choice within the solution. After brief introduction of the concept of information fusion, a typical scenario of networked underwater target detection is put forward. Two examples are presented to show the efficiency of the application of information fusion in the range of underwater network.
