Gestión de Residuales Peligrosos en Tres Hospitales de Ciudad de la Habana

The activities in the health assistance units, even when they go to improve the health and welfare of man and society, generate risks to human health and environment, especially the management and disposal of wastes. This work shows the results of the management of hazardous waste in three hospitals in Havana city in 2009 through the use of the integrated system EIASA-Ambiente. The total volume of hazardous wastes generated was of 11.3 m3 of liquid wastes and 19 ton of solid wastes. The overall indicator of generation by number of beds was 0.16 kg/(bed x day). The main point of impact is the use of disinfectants and cleaning chemicals.
