Development of an Interprofessional Patient Case Competition for Pharmacy and Medical Students

2017
With the growing emphasis on team-based care, interprofessional education has become a priority for health professions’ schools. A pilot interprofessional case conference was designed for third year pharmacy students and first and second year medical students. Participants were assigned to teams with at least two students from each profession and were assigned a patient case for development of a treatment plan. Student teams presented their recommendations to a panel of pharmacy and medicine faculty and were questioned about their decision-making process. The authors report pharmacy and medical students’ perceptions and attitudes towards interprofessional education before and after participation.
