Impact of Emulation Code on the Performance Evaluation of Simulated Systems

2000
Emulation affects accurate performance evalua tion of applications running on the present gen eration of computing machines. The emulation code is often passed onto the traces which, when used for the trace-driven performance evaluation of the next generation of architectures, results in highly incorrect evaluations. Although the sce nario captured by the traces is real, one major problem associated with such a fact is that if such traces are used for futvcre systems design, the underlying implicit assumption will be that the emulation problem will persist with the same degree of impact. This novel paper presents the performance evaluation problem and solutions associated with camputer systems executing relatively large amounts of emulation code.
