Degradation of Antibiotics in Wastewater Using Tetracycline-Resistant Microbes Recovered from an Invitro Hydroponic Phytoremediation System

2009
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT • Antibiotic contamination in various environmental resources is a serious concern worldwide. • Wastewater treatment facilities are usually not designed to remove antibiotics, hence release these compounds back into the environment. • Constant exposure to antibiotics pose potential threat to environment and human health. • In our lab we use invitro hydroponic remediation system to remediate tetracycline (TC) using Vetiver grass. • TC-resistant bacteria were isolated from Vetiver root & contaminated water during the remediation trial.
