Dialectos menospreciados en un manual de dialectología. Análisis crítico de algunos trabajos recogidos en Alvar (dir., 1996)

espanolLa Linguistica adopta una perspectiva descriptiva hacia la variacion, que mantiene que no hay razones linguisticas para considerar que un dialecto es superior o inferior a otros, pues todas son formas igualmente eficaces de comunicar. Frente a esta perspectiva, la perspectiva prescriptiva sostiene una vision asimetrica de la variacion, sosteniendo la existencia de variedades correctas e incorrectas. Este trabajo discute un hecho sorprendente e inesperado: la presencia de un fuerte prescriptivismo en algunos de los capitulos de un prestigioso manual de dialectologia destinado a describir las variedades del espanol. El trabajo efectua un analisis critico de esos capitulos, revelando la existencia en ellos de diferentes prejuicios linguisticos que denigran y menosprecian algunas de las variedades del espanol. EnglishLinguistics adheres to a descriptive position towards variation. That position contends that no linguistic reasons exist in order to consider that a given dialect is better or worse than other dialects, for all of them are equally effective ways of communication. On the contrary, the prescriptive perspective brings to the fore an asymmetric view of variation which assumes the existence of correct and incorrect varieties. This paper discusses a quite surprising and unexpected fact, i.e. a strong prescriptivist stance in some of the chapters of a renowned handbook of dialectology that describes the varieties of Spanish. The paper provides a critical analysis of those chapters and shows that they reveal a number of linguistic prejudices that denigrate and scorn several varieties of Spanish
