ACASE OF ILEAL INTUSSUSCEPTION SECONDARY TO ABERRANT PANCREAS IN AN INFANT

1989
Acase of intussusception secondary to aberrant pancreas was discovered in a 60-days-old infant. At laparotomy, a solid tumor mass measuring about 1.2cm in diameter was found in the terminal ileum situating 30 cm from the ileocecal valve. There was an ileo-ileal intussusception in which the leading part (intussusceptum) was the aberrant pancreas. An affected segment of the ileum (about 10cm) was resected, and end to end anastomosis was performed. Pathological examination revealed a Heinrich-2 type aberrant pancreas. Reports of aberrant pancreas in a case of intussusception were very rare, and 37 cases including the present case have been reported in Japan since 1928, especially, only 6 cases occurred within three months after birth.
