Verwertungspotenziale einzelner Produktbereiche in Österreich

Material and resource management are essential pillars in a sustainable economy. Apart from the enhanced use of renewable resources the re-utilization of mineral and fossil materials is a particular challenge. The aim of the study discussed in this article was to investigate the present situation regarding the utilization of wastes and residues in Austrian industry. For this purpose, the study presented in this article, analyzed the material flows of plastics, paper and glass as well as slaugtherhouse waste, used oils and fats for the bio diesel production. Balances of the respective materials made for the consumption and waste sectors permitted description of existing utilization paths and identification of unused potentials. The results now serve as a basis for the further linkage of the material flows in industrial production, which is a prerequisite for reaching sustainability in industry.
