The total body fat measured by bioelectrical impedance is associated with hyperinsulinaemia in apparently healthy adolescents

2020
: Various anthropometric measurements have been used for the screening of individuals at risk of developing metabolic abnormalities. Bioelectrical impedance is a method for measuring body composition that provides a convenient, cheap and non-radioactive alternative to standard methods such as Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA). However, data obtained from children and adolescents using the bioelectrical impedance scale are scarce. We evaluated the association between total body fat (TBF) and hyperinsulinaemia in healthy adolescents using the Tanita TBF-215 scale.
