Open reduction and internal fixation for treatment of Lisfranc joint injuries

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effects of open reduction and internal fixation(ORIF) for treatment of Lisfranc joint injuries.Methods Fifty-one patients with Lisfranc joint injuries(57 sides) were mana- ged with open reduction as well as internal fixation with screws,Kirschner wires and AO plates.The patients were followed up for 4-32 months(median 24 months),and the therapeutic effects were evaluated according to Maryland Foot Score(MFS).Results In the follow-up study of the patients,according to MFS,excellent clinical results was achieved in 14 cases(24.6%),good results in 28(49.1%),acceptable results in 10(17.5%),and poor results in 5 (8.8%),with the total excellent and good results being 73.7%.Conclusion ORIF may achieve satisfactory clinical results for the treatment of Lisfranc joint injuries.(Shanghai Med J,2008,31:113-115)
