Reconstruction of Extensive Achilles Tendon Defect with Leeds-Keio Artificial Ligament -A Case Report-

1995
We report a case of reconstruction of an extensive Achilles tendon defect treated with a Leeds-Keio artificial ligament. The subject was a 38 year-old man who was injured in a traffic accident in which he sustained extensive injury to his Achilles tendon, We could not operate primarily by end-to-end suture, therefore we reconstructed his Achilles tendon using the semitendinosus tendon augmented by a Leeds-Keio artificial ligament. One year after reconstruction of the Achilles tendon, the patient remains in a good condition. We suggest that this method is useful for reconstruction of extensive Achilles tendon defects.
