A CASE OF APPENDICEAL DIVERTICULUM DIAGNOSED BY PREOPERATIVE TEST

1994
A 54-year-old male was admitted to the hospital for close examination of the colon. Barium enema showed several diverticula in the ascending colon and appendix. Right hemicolectomy was carried out. Histopathologically three diverticulum ducts of the appendix and many diverticulum ducts of the ascending colon were observed. These diverticula were diagnosed as pseudodiverticula. In the treatment of appendiceal diverticulum, operation is, of course, indicated, if diverticulitis develoved. If an asymptomatic diverticulum is accidentally found by barium enema, appendectomy is also recommended. Because it has been reported that perforation of the appendiceal diverticulum can occur in a high incidence.
