A Case of Pleomorphic Adenoma of the External Auditory Canal

2001
Pleomorphic adenoma is a benign tumor which usually arises from salivary gland. Its occurrence in the external auditory canal is extremely rare. In the external auditory canal, pleomorphic adenoma arises in the cartilaginous portion, where the ceruminal glands are located. In this report, we describe a case of pleomorphic adenoma of the external auditory canal in the antero-superior cartilaginous part. At first, the tumor was thought to be an epidermal cyst and complete mass excision was done via transcanal approach. The pathologic report confirmed pleomorphic adenoma. But formation of granulation tissue at the excision site was noted 14 days after the excision. We removed the granulation tissue along with perichodrium and surrounding normal skin via transcanal approach. Now the patient has been free of disease for about 1 year. Korean J Audiol 2010;14:45-48
