Determination of Aleurothrixus floccosus (Maskell) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) population fluctuation and its natural enemies in Aydın

2016
This study was conducted between 2012 and 2013 years on sour orange in Aydin city centre (Mugla, Ataturk and Bati Gazi Boulevard). The aim of the study was determine population density and natural enemies of A. floccosus. Samplings were made periodically every 15 days. As a result; It was determined that A. flococcus produced three generations a year and its populations peaked between June and July. It was observed that A. flococcus owerwintered in nymph and pupae stages on sour orange trees in Aydin. Cales noacki Howard (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) was found as natural enemy on A. floccosus. Parasitization was the highest in September and parasitization rate has reached to 27,2% in both years. In the suitable weather conditions and absence of natural enemies, it is considered that A. flococcus may reach to high population. We conclude that A. floccosus can be controlled by its parasitoid if it can be protected during the sprayings for mosquito control in the city.
