Bewertung der Magnetresonanztomographie bei Patienten mit temporomandibulärer Dysfunktion

2002
All 114 patients were included in this study receiving a clinical treatment under the suspicious diagnosis "temporomandibular pain dysfunction syndrome" (1995 to 1997) and a MRT afterwards. The analysis of specifity and sensitivity showed no sufficient correlation between clinical findings and the MRT. It was concluded, that a MRT is indicated, if signs and symtoms do not show that the disease can be classified or no success under standard therapy (splint, physiotherapy, antiphlogistica) could be seen. A MRT is justified as documentation before any surgical intervention of the temporomandibular joint. Additionally a MRT with contrast medium might be useful in patients with inflammatory diseases of the joint (psoriatic arthritis, rheumatic arthritis).
