MRI of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles and Myeloperoxidase Activity Links Inflammation to Brain Edema in Experimental Cerebral Malaria

MRI of cross-linked iron nanoparticles and gadolinium-labeled myeloperoxidase visualized inflammation in a mouse model of cerebral malaria. Involvement of the blood–cerebrospinal fluid barrier and its association with brain swelling and disease severity were identified with MRI.
