Burgage plots of medieval Perth: the evidence from excavations at Canal Street
1996
An excavation was carried out by the Scottish Urban Archaeological Trust Ltd in the backlands of South Street, Perth, in 1985. Four burgage plots were identified with occupation spanning the mid13th to the early 15th centuries. Evidence for malting, in the form of a kiln and coble, was recovered in an area relatively undeveloped until the 18th century. The excavation was funded by the Manpower Services Commission Community Programme, with additional funding for post-excavation analyses and the preparation of this report provided by Historic Scotland.
