The influence of the rigidity of mesogenic groups on liquid-crystalline properties of polymers

The mesomorphic properties of polymers [OCOPhOCOPhOCOCH=CHCOOPhCOOPhCOOCH 2 Si(Me) 2 OSi(Me) 2 CH 2 ] n and NHCOPhOCO(CH 2 ) 7 COOPhCOCH(CH 2 ) 3 Si(Me) 2 OSi(Me) 2 (CH 2 ) 3 ] n were compared. It was shown that the liquid-crystalline properties of polymers become less distinct after the insertion of flexible methylene fragments into the mesogenic units, which separates the latter into short rigid asymmetric fragments, ranged in macromolecular chains in a head-to-head fashion
