Physicochemical study of the composition of Pt, Rh, Ir, and Ru complexes in extraction with dipropyl sulfide

2003
The composition of platinum-group metal complexes formed in extraction with organic sulfides has been studied using IR, UV, and 1 H NMR spectroscopy. Elemental analysis data indicate that, in extraction with dipropyl sulfide (DPS), the complexes RhCl 3 . 3DPS, IrCl 3 . 3DPS, and RuCl 3 . 3DPS have been formed in the organic phase regardless of HCl concentration, temperature (20-100°C), and metal oxidation state. The complex PtCl 2 . 2DPS has been formed in the extraction of either Pt(II) (T= 20°C) or Pt(IV) (T= 80°C).
