Alpha track analysis using nuclear emulsions as a preselecting method for safeguards environmental sample analysis

Abstract Alpha track analysis in state-of-the-art nuclear emulsions was investigated to develop a preselecting method for environmental sampling for safeguards, which is based on counting of each alpha and fission tracks from nuclear material. We developed an automatic scanning system and software for readout of alpha tracks in the emulsions. Automatic analysis of alpha tracks from an uranium ore sample was demonstrated.
