Abstract A double-blind evaluation of the effects of glycerol administration intravenously for 4 or 6 days in patients with acute stroke was completed in a stroke centre. Fifty-four patients with acute cerebral infarction and eight patients with spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage were admitted to the study. The neurological status was evaluated by use of a neurological scoring system.
