Building a Nonlinear Unsteady Aerodynamic Model for a Windshear Related Jet Transport

A Boeing 737-800 landing under a strong wind and heavy rain condition was investigated. An unsteady and nonlinear aerodynamic phenomenon has been observed. A numerical approach with the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) and the fuzzy logic modeling technique was adopted to construct the aerodynamic models. It is essential to accurately and efficiently model the nonlinearities associated with wind affected aerodynamics. The adopted approach has the potential to understand the flying characters and it is more effective than the F-factor method in identifying the wind shear hazardous flight condition.
