Luís Alfonso y José Yxart: el florete y la espada

2006
Luis Alfonso y Casanovas (Palma de Mallorca, 1845 - Madrid, 1892), prominent literary and artistic critic, was senior-editor of the newspapers: La Politica, La Epoca and La Dinastia. Alfonso wrote for a bourgeois audience-to which he belonged-and who had a good artistic education, a "canovista" (pro-monarchy) political ideology, and was a defender of the issues of idealism in art. He describes this audience in his novels, especially in El guante (1886). Luis Alfonso played an important role in the news media of those days, and he also had long discussions about Naturalism, friendship and correspondence with Galdos, Oiler, Pardo Bazan, Yxart and Pereda.
