Study on the relationship between the area of posterior lobe of the pituitary gland and age by MRI

Objective To study of relationship between the area of posterior lobe of the pituitary gland and age.Methods 255 cases of pituitary glands were studied by 1.5T magnetic resonance imaging.The T1W images were obtained in sagittal planes,the length and height of posterior lobe were measured.Results the area of posterior lobe was the most large in male before the age of 10 (17.11 mm 2) and the area of posterior lobe was the most large in female between the age of 10 and 19 (20.00 mm 2).Both the male and female were the most small after 60 years old (male 11.93 mm 2,female 9.27 mm 2).Conclusion There was no relationship between the area of posterior lobe and age both male and female before the age of 40.The area of posterior lobe tended to decline after the age of 40 in both male and female.
