Microsurgical Removal of Transverse Sinus Meningeoma (A Report of 32 Cases)

2005
Objective To investigate the surgical treatment and outcome for transverse sinus meningeoma. Methods 32 cases of transverse sinus meningeoma were surgical treated from June 1988 to August 2001, including complete resection in 29 cases and partial resection in 3 cases who received gamma knife therapy postoperatively. Results All cases survived within 1 to 8 years follow-up. Symptoms were disappeared completely in 26 cases and partially in 13 cases. Facial paralysis, mild epencephal dysfunction and hydrocephaly were occurred in 1 case each. Recurrence occurred within 15, 33 and 36 months postoperatively in the 3 cases whose tumors were resected partially. Conclusion Transverse sinus meningeoma is rare and surgical resection in conjunction with gamma knife therapy should be effective.
