SeAGeRH project: toward a service of fisheries management assisted by satellites. SeAGeRH: Service d'Aide a/spl grave/ la Gestion des Ressources Halieutiques

2003
Satellites products, as sea surface temperature maps, were and are still used to locate zones of high probability of concentration of pelagic fish, thus reducing search time. The fishing industry request for satellite information really became significant on the late 1990s, when the offer became more complete with mainly the provision of maps of water color and maps of altimetry (anomalies of the ocean level and related currents). Therefore, the knowledge of oceanic landscape is more and more increasing and should profit to all the fishing field actors. In this context, the goals of the SeAGeRH project are (1) to combine competences and acquired experience from IRD and CLS to rapidly develop a comprehensive and competitive offer in the field of spatial oceanography products dedicated to the fisheries market and (2) to propose an adapted version of the range of products for the specific requirements of the institutions responsible for the management of fisheries resources, a new market.
