Growth Resposes and Mortality of Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) after a Pine Sawfly Outbreak
2006
The focus of this study has been to provide estimates of growth losses and tree mortality after an outbreak by the large pine sawfly Diprion pini (L.) and preliminary estimates of the economic value of losses. The study was carried out in SW Finland. Increment cores were sampled for radial growth measurements from trees subjected to slight, moderate and heavy defoliation. Tree mortality during the recovery period was estimated for three different hierarchy positions of trees; hold-overs, dominants and intermediates.
