Characteristics and Tribological Properties of MoS_2-Zr Composite Coatings Deposited by Medium-frequency Magnetron Sputtering and Arc Ion Plating

2009
MoS2-Zr composite coatings were deposited on YT15 cemented carbide substrates by a hybrid method, which is called medium-frequency magnetron sputtering coupled with arc ion plating techniques. The thickness,micro-hardness,adhesion strength between substrate-coating of the composite coatings were studied. The morphology, composition and structure of the MoS2-Zr coatings were investigated by SEM,EDX and XRD,and the friction and wear properties were determined on a pin-on-disc tribo-tester.The results indicated that suitable level of Zr doping in MoS2 coatings can effectively improve the mechanical and tribological properties. The transfer film was found to play an important role in determining the wear behavior of MoS2-Zr coatings.
