Adsorption of styrene on the hydrothermal-modified sepiolite

2013
Abstract Sepiolite modified by hydrothermal methods was used for adsorption of styrene. The specific surface area of hydrothermally modified sepiolite experienced a large increase from 29.183 m 2 /g to 86.661 m 2 /g. The static saturation adsorption capacity of styrene onto the modified sepiolite was 132 mg/g, which was significantly higher than the saturation adsorption capacity of the raw sepiolite. The adsorption breakthrough curves of styrene on the sepiolites were measured. The adsorption capacity of sepiolite was enhanced clearly. The breakthrough curves of styrene onto the modified sepiolite shifted to the right with a decrease in the styrene concentration at gas inlet and a decrease in the temperature. The hydrothermally modified sepiolite had a high styrene adsorption capacity.
