The ruthenium catalyst generated in situ from H2Ru(CO)(PPh3)3, (S)-SEGPHOS, and a TADDOL-derived phosphoric acid (TPA) promotes butadiene hydrohydroxyalkylation to form enantiomerically enriched products.
