The Design and Realization of Newborn Unit Management System on the Basis of RFID

Due to the frequent occurrence of the recent major medical accidents, the electronic tag(RFID) system that can prevent such incidents in advance is rising. The objective of this study is to establish RFID basis-newborn unit management system by handling the management work of newborn unit which is expected to be relatively easy to predict the expected effects and also easy to apply RFID among the overall hospital health system. With the newborn unit management work based on RFID technology, this study realized the newborn management system that makes it possible for the real-time data exchanges of not only basic data like the newborn"s name and date of birth, but also nursing record such as administration, treatment and health condition, by inputting and saving data transferred through RFID tag(13.56MHz) attached to the newborn"s anklet, in the server through PDA RFID reader. Through the realization of the newborn management system, first, hospitals can prevent not only dual input of patients" conditions like electronic input after manual record, but also incidents in which the newborn is taken by wrong parents. It is also expected to prevent medical accidents like medication errors and to improve medical staffs" work efficiency. In the aspect of customers(mothers and families), second, it can solve the inconvenience of when mothers and families meet babies as they can also have the real-time monitoring of the newborn. In the future, it is necessary to expand the system through interworking with the overall health care system of hospital.
