Engineering method of cooldown calculation for power transmission and magnet superconducting cables

Abstract The developed engineering method of cooldown calculation can be applied both to the case of power transmission cables and magnet cables. It is a combination of numerical and analytical methods in such a manner to create a Fortran code so compact and quick to be used with a personal computer. The code determinates the total cooldown time and the wall and coolant temperature distribution for each time interval. Code results have been compared with experimental measurements and the accuracy is good enough for engineering applications.
