Dynamic Beam Splitter for Terahertz Communication Based on Vanadium Dioxide Metasurface

2020
Since communication technology entered the era of 5G and beyond, there has been a great demand for highperformance devices working in terahertz (THz) band. Here, a beam splitter based on vanadium dioxide (VO 2 ) metasurface is proposed. It can dynamically switch between specular and dual-wave reflection at 0.34THz through thermal excitation. Two samples with split angles of 61.93° and 33.47° are demonstrated and experimental results agree well with theoretical predictions. The beam splitter can be used to realize multiterminal communication and an example of indoor scenario is given in this paper.
