Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is a new alternative therapy for soft-tissue diseases near the bone. The German Society for Shock Wave Lithotripsy has classified ESWT as a therapy of equal value as surgery in the case of the following diagnoses: 1. Insertion tendinitis of the shoulder (with extraosseous calcium deposits) 2. Pseudo-arthroses 3. Epicondylitis humeri radialis/ulnaris 4. Plantar calcaneal spur
