PLASTIC FOAM IN ROAD EMBANKMENTS

1981
Road fills of expanded polystyrene have been used under extremely difficult subsoil conditions where other lightweight materials, which are relatively much heavier, would not provide sufficient stability. Although the material is not cheap, its use is cheaper than alternative methods, as in bridge construction or embankments on piles, and is competitive with other lightweight fill materials. Experience so far has been good. (Author/TRRL)
