ADMAP-Functionalized Polyacrylonitrile Fiber Applied for the Efficient Identification and Removal of Metal Ions from Water

2021
A functionalized fiber (PANADMAPF) was synthesized by immobilizing N,N′-dimethyl-N-(4-pyridinyl)-1,3-propanediamine (ADMAP, a DMAP analogue) onto the surface of polyacrylonitrile fibers (PANF). The structure and morphology of the functionalized fibers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and elemental analysis. PANADMAPF can adsorb a variety of heavy metal ions, which has good applicability over a wide pH range (3–7). The adsorption performance of PANADMAPF including the response time, the detection limit, and the effect of pH on adsorption was studied using Cu2+. This comprehensive experiment incorporates organic synthesis, chemical analysis, and instrumental analysis. The experiment is designed to improve students’ comprehensive experimental skills.
